Dear Readers,
Greetings and Good Morning,
I hope you all doing well!
Here's a small gift for you -
As this season unfolds, people all around the world come together to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Whether or not they fully understand its meaning, the story of Jesus’ birth, life, ministry, death, and resurrection is one of unmatched love. These moments are all connected, and none can stand alone. Together, they remind us of one important truth: LOVE.
This Christmas, as we celebrate and thank God for His amazing love shown to us through Jesus, let’s take a moment to think about the reason behind it all. With that in mind, I want to share something I was reflecting on this morning—a simple yet powerful parable that shows us the heart of the kingdom of heaven.
Take a moment to read and reflect. Matthew 13:44 says:
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy, he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.”
1 - hidden
The parable points to the hidden nature of the kingdom of heaven. The treasure, though immensely valuable, is not immediately visible to everyone. The man’s decision to buy the field emphasises his recognition of its worth and his commitment to securing it completely, not just temporarily.
2 - in his joy
The man’s joy is a key detail in the parable. He is so overjoyed by the treasure that he willingly sells all he owns to acquire the field. This reflects the transformative power of discovering the kingdom of heaven—it brings such overwhelming joy that the sacrifices made to obtain it feel small in comparison.
3 - sells all that he has
The man’s decision to sell everything he has to buy the field highlights the immense value he places on the treasure. It shows that the kingdom of heaven is worth sacrificing everything for. His actions demonstrate that obtaining the treasure is not a casual or selfish act but a deliberate and costly decision.
4 - buys that field
In the time of Jesus, Jewish law required that treasure found in a field belonged to the owner of the field, not the finder. By buying the field, the man ensures that he legally owns the treasure. This reflects his integrity and respect for the law. Instead of taking the treasure dishonestly, he secures it in a rightful and ethical manner.
In simple terms, the man’s actions show us how we should value the kingdom of heaven—with honesty, dedication, joy, and a willingness to give up anything for it. It reminds us that the kingdom is worth more than anything we own, and its value is beyond anything this world can offer.
So, as we go about our day and continue the celebrations, let’s keep this truth close to our hearts: the kingdom of heaven is a treasure of immeasurable worth. It calls for integrity, commitment, joy, and sacrifice to embrace it fully. And it is Jesus Christ who revealed this treasure to us. Through Him, in Him, and by Him, we are invited to receive and own this eternal gift.
With that, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a season filled with calm, peace, and joy.
With love, Yehoshua
